Kembara MSAM-UMW Visited Villages Around Batu Pahat

SHAH ALAM, 18 April 2018 – Following the success of its Kembara MSAM-UMW in the last two years, the UMW Group once again organised Kembara MSAM-UMW 2018 from 7 to 9 April in conjunction with Minggu Saham Amanah Malaysia (MSAM) 2018 in Batu Pahat, Johor.

This year, the 15 four-wheel-drive convoy ferrying 45 UMW Community Champions (volunteers) travelled almost 110 kilometers to reach remote places in Batu Pahat to assist the orang asli, old folks, underprivileged students and families. UMW Community Champions, which comprised of SL1M trainees and UMW employees based in Shah Alam, distributed essential items like rice, cooking oil, flour and sugar to the villagers.

On the second day, a gotong-royong was held at Kampung Sri Merlong in Rengit and Kampung Nelayan Sri Pantai in Senggarang which assisted 50 orang asli families, most of whom are fishermen and 200 underprivileged families. There, the volunteers helped built a cottage for an underprivileged family and assisted to paint the jetty, boats and the community hall. The UMW Group also contributed its very own Grantt engine oil to the fishermen.

Kembara MSAM-UMW also reached out to “Community-Based Rehabilitation” centre (Program Pemulihan Dalam Komuniti (PDK)) in Parit Raja, and Penggaram, as well as a senior citizen centre in Penggaram. Around 400 students and the underprivileged benefited from this corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme.

The convoy was flagged off by Dato’ Dr. Noraini Ahmad, Chairman of MATRADE, Dato’ Idris Kechot, Deputy President & Group Chief Operating Officer, Asset Management, Permodalan Nasional Berhad and Badrul Feisal Abdul Rahim, President & Group CEO of UMW Holdings Berhad.

This programme is part of UMW’s continuous support towards the underprivileged communities in the country under its community development pillar. UMW continues to champion many worthy causes under its three CSR pillars, with the other two being education and environment.
