KUALA LUMPUR, 30 January 2019 – UMW Corporation Sdn. Bhd., a wholly-owned subsidiary of UMW Holdings Berhad joined forces with Lembaga Urus Air Selangor (LUAS) and Majlis Daerah Kuala Selangor (MDKS) and successfully organised the 2019 Tree Planting and Beach Cleaning Programme last Saturday. At the event, UMW also handed a cash contribution of RM25,000 to make the programme a success. While this is the company’s third collaboration with MDKS, its partnership with LUAS have been ongoing for the eighth consecutive year.
Over 40 UMW Community Champions and 40 volunteers from LUAS and MDKS rolled up their sleeves to plant trees and clean up the coastal lines of Pantai Remis, which is situated approximately 20 km from the town of Kuala Selangor. During the half-day programme, 30 Pine Trees and 500 Murraya trees (shrubs) were planted by the volunteers covering the beach front.
As an organization with a heritage stretching back more than 100 years, we remain indebted to our natural environment and to the communities in which we operate for supporting our continued success. The programme is part of UMW’s CSR efforts encompassing three pillars, namely, community development, education and environment. This CSR effort is also consistent with the Group’s sustainability strategy of nurturing the community and society. UMW believes it is the responsibility of every corporate citizen to preserve and conserve the environment for the benefit of the future generation.
UMW have carried out various environmental-focused CSR programmes and have successfully planted 19,600 trees since 2011.
